The LiFE Awards acknowledge the outstanding work being done within the suicide prevention sector across Australia.
Each year, Suicide Prevention Australia receives nominations from across the country and it is great to hear and see all the amazing work being done to help prevent suicide in this country.
Nominations for the 2013 LiFE Awards have closed.
This year 7 categories will be awarded:
1. Business
The Business Award will recognise a business or employer who has shown dedication to promoting positive mental health and suicide prevention in the workplace
2. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
This award will recognise an individual, organisation or community group that promotes highly effective suicide prevention initiatives within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals and communities, while demonstrating respect of the cultural values in each community. The award recipient must be Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander.
3. Public Sector
The Public Sector Award will recognise an individual, organisation or government entity responsible for raising community awareness of suicide prevention. The recipient may have successfully campaigned for increased funding or created a government program that supports suicide prevention initiatives.
4. Research
The Research Award will recognise the contribution by an Australian researcher towards increasing knowledge around suicide and suicide prevention. The recipient will be published, highlight best practice and the research will include an objective evaluation element or evaluation method.
5. Communication (Print, Non-Print, Social Media, Art)
The Communication Award will acknowledge an individual or organisation that generates increased awareness of suicide prevention within their community, while adhering to Mindframe’s reporting guidelines.
6. Service Delivery
The Service Delivery Award will recognise a professional or organisation that provides exceptional service delivery to those in need of assistance.
7. Community Engagement
The Community Engagement Award will acknowledge an individual, organisation or employer responsible for fostering community participation in suicide prevention initiatives, increasing awareness in the community and empowering individuals to participate in local projects.
Criteria to be followed in LiFE Award submissions
The nominee must:
1. Have had active involvement in the practice of suicide prevention, intervention or postvention
2. Exhibit innovation and be a catalyst for positive change in the suicide prevention sector
3. Promote advocacy and contribute to an increased awareness in the community by thoughtfully disseminating information
4. The work/program must have been implemented within Australia
