Training & Development

Centacare Catholic Family Services

Centacare Catholic Family Services offers a wide range of support services to the South Australian community including counselling and training. The organisation offers the ASCEND program, a free Suicide Prevention Program for young people up to the age of 25 years or the workers who are supporting them.

CLAN WA

CLAN WA operates the "indigo project" to provide support to individuals and families affected by mental illness by offering counselling. The Brain Ambulance offers free workshops including Mental Health First Aid and suicide and self-harm at the Armadale branch.

COmmunity Response to Eliminating Suicide (CORES)

CORES is a community based program which educates members of the local community how to intervene when somebody in the community is suicidal. The program takes the approach of “teaching people how to fish”, rather than giving them “food”, in that local community members are trained to be trainers and it is these local community people who deliver the program to their own community.

Hunter Institute of Mental Health

The Hunter Institute of Mental Health aims to promote mental health and to improve the outcomes for people with mental illnesses. They organisation has played a key role in the development, implementation and/or evaluation of a number of national programs including Response Ability and Mindframe. They offer a range of education and training programs in mental health and suicide prevention.

Jesuit Social Services

In addition to the bereavement-focussed Support After Suicide program, Jesuit Social Services also provide education programs to professionals working in the education, health and welfare sectors.

LifeForce, Wesley Mission

Wesley LifeForce is a suicide prevention program aiming to educate, empower and resource Australian communities to be aware of the issues of suicide. The LifeForce suicide prevention workshops and seminars allow participants to gain insight into suicidal ideation, learn skills to identify warning signals and assess the risk of a person who is experiencing thoughts of suicide.

Living Hope Bereavement Support Training Course, The Salvation Army

This online e-learning program aims to give participants the skills and confidence to support people bereaved by suicide.

LivingWorks Suicide Intervention Training, Lifeline

Lifeline offers a number of LivingWorks training programs (including includes ASIST, safeTALK, suicideTALK and suicideCare), which aim to equip participants with the tools to help persons at risk of suicide keep safe and access further support.

Mental Health Coordinating Council (MHCC)

The Mental Health Coordinating Council (MHCC) is the peak body for non-government organisations (NGOs) working for mental health throughout New South Wales. They offer a range of training courses and seminars.

Mental Health Council of Australia (MHCA)

The Mental Health Council of Australia (MHCA) is the peak, national non-government organisation for the Australian mental health sector. They offer a range of workshops.

Mental Health First Aid

Mental Health First Aid is a training program for members of the public in how to support someone in a mental health crisis situation or who is developing a mental disorder. The program can assist in early intervention and in the on-going community support of people with mental illnesses. The website offers first aid guidelines to help you understand how to deal with mental health crisis situations including dealing with suicidal behaviour.

OzHelp Foundation

The OzHelp Foundation is an early intervention, suicide prevention and social capacity building program targeting industry and community. It is built on a vision to enhance the resilience of industry apprentices, workers and the broader community through training and support. The national office is located in Canberra. Parakaleo

Parakaleo is a retreat centre focused on providing support to people who are struggling with suicide or suicidal thoughts, or family members affected by suicide or suicidal behaviour. They also offer services for industry and a range of workshops and training courses including LivingWorks ASIST and SuicideTalk training. Parakaleo is based in North West Tasmania and operates throughout Tasmania.

QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer), The Salvation Army

This online e-learning program aims to give participants the skills and confidence to support people at risk of suicide.

Queensland Centre for Mental Health Learning (QCMHL)

The QCMHL deliver a wide range of training programs including one day workshops and a national qualification suitable for mental health clinicians and other mental health workers. These training programs are aimed at practical foundation knowledge and skills that focus on consumer safety and mental health recovery.

Reach Out Pro

Reach Out Pro provides access and advice for health care professionals on a range of technologies and online resources that can be used to enhance the effectiveness of psychosocial support and mental health care provided to young people.

Reach Out Teachers' Network

The Reach Out Teachers’ Network connects secondary school teachers with Reach Out, Inspire's web-based mental health service for young people.

Response Ability

Response Ability is a health promotion program, aiming to improve the knowledge and skills of early career teachers in regard to: promoting mental health and resilience, contributing to the prevention of mental health difficulties, and supporting early intervention by helping to identify those in need of additional support. It is an initiative of the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing, under the National Mental Health Strategy and the National Suicide Prevention Strategy.

square (suicide questions, answers, resources)

square is a set of resources designed for anyone working with people who are at risk of suicide. The square model is supported by information and tools to assist in the management of suicide risk through appropriate assessment, referral and follow-up. The resource has been developed by the South Australian Divisions of General Practice Inc and Relationships Australia (SA) in conjunction with the Federal and State Governments.

Suicide Assessment and Intervention: Men at Risk eLearning Tool, Mensline Australia

This eLearning tool aims to provide professionals who work with men at risk of harming themselves with the knowledge and skills to assess and respond to suicide risk.
