In this section we aim to provide a comprehensive listing of credible organisations working in the field of suicide and self harm prevention and suicide bereavement support. However, as this information is gathered using volunteer services, we may have regrettably missed out on including some quality links. Community
Care For Life: Suicide Prevention Association
Care For Life, a Gold Coast based organisation, provides information relating to suicide prevention and bereavement by suicide to organisations and community members (including youth), through training and community forums.
Club SPERANZA
Club SPERANZA is focused on advocacy and promotion of suicide prevention in Australia and New Zealand.
Community Action for the Prevention of Suicide (CAPS)
This Queensland based organisation to provides a practical, non-clinical support service to coordinate care, attention and support for people at risk of suicide, those who are concerned for someone at risk, and the children of someone at risk. CAPS is involved in funding and promotion as well as evidence-based education programs.
COmmunity Response to Eliminating Suicide (CORES)
CORES is a community based program which educates members of the local community how to intervene when somebody in the community is suicidal. The program takes the approach of “teaching people how to fish”, rather than giving them “food”, in that local community members are trained to be trainers and it is these local community people who deliver the program to their own community.
Dr Edward Koch Foundation
The Dr Edward Koch Foundation is a non-profit organisation, established to focus and support public health activities in north Queensland. The Koch Foundation supports the FNQ Suicide Prevention Taskforce, provides training in suicide prevention skills and operates the Cairns Standby Response Program, a community-based support and intervention service for people bereaved through suicide.
Southern Community Welfare (SCW)
Southern Community Welfare (SCW) is a community based, non-profit, harm prevention organisation. Since it’s inception in 1995 it has provided professional, innovative, therapeutic services to families and individuals. SCW has a particular focus on serving the community in the areas of risk, resilience and early intervention. SCW offers the Sutherland Shire Support After Suicide Support Group.
Stepping Stone Clubhouse
Stepping Stone, servicing the Coorparoo area in Queensland, provides a non-institutional setting where adults with a mental illness give each other support as they work to rebuild their confidence, stamina, concentration, social and vocational skills.
Suicide Awareness
This community organisation, based in Griffith NSW, is focused on building awareness of suicide and its prevention. They offer fundraising events and community networks.
Worklink Employment Support Group Inc
Worklink Employment Support Group Inc. is a diverse organisation that provides employment assistance, personal support and educational programmes to people with a mental health condition and other disadvantaged groups in the Cairns community.
